A provocative and intriguing exploration of the possibilities and limits of different bodies
Tender and demanding, this groundbreaking choreography by Hungarian choreographer Adrienn Hód and the Unusual Symptoms dance company of Theatre Bremen, Germany invites us to take a fresh look at the human body and its meaning in dance and society.
Between shared explorations of physical diversity, joyful exuberance and a helping of self-irony, an ensemble of dancers with and without disabilities question the hierarchies of classical dance and the supposedly progressive forms of contemporary dance. Asking for the undisturbed attention of the audience, they dismantle conventional notions of the body, and the structures built around it, and set about playfully realigning our gaze.
A thought-provoking and intriguing work, Harmonia challenges audience preconceptions, demands intense stamina from the dancers, and builds slowly and steadily from an unconventional opening to a joyous, celebratory climax.
Harmonia premiered in Bremen, Germany in 2022. It was named Best Work at the 2023 Rudolf Laban Award in Hungary, and was selected for Tanzplattform Deutschland 2024, making it one of the ten most representative dance works in Germany for that year.
